Family & Matrimonial
We understand that problems in your family or relationship can be stressful and traumatic.
Our experienced family law team offers practical and sympathetic advice about divorce, separation and child related matters.
Once we have an understanding of the individual circumstances of your case, we will advise you about the best route for you and explain what each of the different options which may be available would involve.
We always aim to help you reach agreement as cost-effectively, painlessly and amicably as possible.
You might find that mediation could be helpful and we will discuss this with you and refer your case to a local mediation service if appropriate.
A new and expanding method of approaching resolution in family law is called “collaborative law”, which is a process in which both parties and their solicitors agree to take part in open discussions in round-table meetings to try and achieve settlement without resorting to costly Court proceedings. Joanne Matthews, our family law specialist, is trained in collaborative law and would be pleased to discuss this option with you.
If Court proceedings are contemplated, we will make sure you understand and feel in control of what is happening, as well as ensuring that your case is presented thoroughly and firmly. A lawyer from this firm may represent you in Court proceedings, or we may suggest a barrister selected and approved by us on the basis of experience, competence and suitability.
We can assist you in all types of family and relationship cases, including:
- Pre-nuptial agreements
- Cohabitation disputes
- Separation
- Civil partnership breakdown
- Divorce
- Financial settlement
- Contact with children
- Residence
- Applications for removal from jurisdiction
- Specific issues such as education and parental responsibility
- injunctions
- Occupation orders
If you’re not sure exactly what your case involves, or which “category” it falls into, we will talk through your options and the steps in plain English.
Some of our recent cases have involved:
- Parents moving abroad with the children of the family
- Shared residence
- Grandparents seeking contact with grandchildren
- Increasing fathers’ contact with children
- Division of assets following relationship breakdowns

So, whatever your situation, be reassured we’ll be with you - every single step of the way.
